By establishing uniformity in child custody rules from state to state, the UCCJEA eliminates the loopholes and gaps in the law that allow parents or other family members to abduct children by using custody orders obtained after crossing state borders. Primarily, the UCCJEA limits jurisdiction over child custody to the child's "home state", thereby preventing abducting parents from "shopping" for new custody orders in other states.

One of the most important things we can do to help prevent family abductions is to make sure that this law passes in all 50 states. While many states have the UCCJEA in place, your state doesn't. Tell your state legislature to change that with this letter!
